My 100th post!

Hi! I’m Patryk Gałach. Welcome to my dev blog!

It’s been almost 2 years, when I decided to get back to blogging and start patrykgalach.com.

And here we are, 100 posts later! ?

Why I started? ?

The very first question you should ask yourself before starting anything should be simple “why?”.

My “why” is and always was to share my knowledge and experience around making games. I’m passionate about it, and I love to spread my passion to others. ?

This blog lets me do that, and do it on a much bigger scale – worldwide!

And I admire that I can always get back to the content I’ve created. Especially now, when there is quite a lot of posts. ?

What kept me motivated? ?

Well… I’m trying to be consistent, but it’s really hard with my day-to-day responsibilities in the Reality Unit.

I’ve started with writing two posts per week, and I wanted to keep it that way as long as possible to build some backlog of content. This was also a great way to check if I would enjoy writing so much text. ?

Now I know that I enjoy that, but the problem is “what should I write about next?” as coming with ideas is sometimes harder than writing the post itself… ?

But to be honest, the best thing that can happen is to get some nice comments. ?

This makes me feel great ❤️

This reminds me of why I’m doing this, and it’s great that people sometimes appreciate that. ?

So how it’s going? ?

It’s going great! At least in my eyes. ?

I love the numbers so let’s talk about them!

The first post I wrote here was back in February 2019.

Since then, I have made 100 posts in total are there are over 50 comments on my posts.

Most of my posts have some repositories available publicly. There are 55 of them at my bitbucket account.

Just a few of my repositories

My blog was visited by over 30k people worldwide and currently has over 5k monthly visits! ?

What will bring the future? ?

I’m at such a point that I’m using a lot of different technologies. For the most part, it’s Unity, but I have opportunities to use something different like Swift, Node.JS, Flutter, NetCore, and more from time to time.

It’s fun to see how the same things are made in different technologies. Probably I won’t write a lot of posts about them, but you might see some usage in a couple of them.

But there might be a bigger thing coming in… In recent times I started using Unreal Engine in a couple of projects. I see some benefits of using UE4 over Unity but can also point why you should use Unity over UE4. So you can expect some comparison between both game engines near in the future. ?

Will I completely switch to UE4? Or will I stay with Unity? Time will tell, but I know which of them made me who I am today. ?

Let’s keep going! ?

I hope you enjoyed this little post. The next couple of weeks might be crazy for me, but I’ll try to keep posting!

If you really enjoy my content, don’t hesitate to share my blog with your friends. This helps me a lot! ?
